What’s gayer than this picture of Chase Crawford shirtless and wearing a cowboy hat? Well, pretty much nothing except for Chase Crawford being cast in the remake of “Footloose.”

So says The Hollywood Reporter, who have the scoop on the “Gossip Girl” darling taking over the lead from departing BFF and fellow girly boy, Zac Efron.

As if the most beloved horror films of the 70′s and 80′s hadn’t been massacred enough by Hollywood execs in their recent slew of dreadful remakes, MGM announced today it was going to finish the rest off.

Variety reports that MGM will be partnering with Hyde Park Entertainment to produce 12 or more direct-to-DVD projects per year, based on popular film and TV franchises. In other words, nothing will be sacred.

The first project from the demonic alliance to be hacked to pieces, will be one of my favorite films, Brian De Palma’s classic 1980 thriller “Dressed to Kill.” The mess is being written by Rick Alexander, who is also producing a remake of “Conan the Barbarian” for Warner Bros. Yeah sure, why not?

Since these direct-to-DVD releases will undoubtly be scraping the bottom of Hollywood’s D-list for talent, how about casting Sharon Stone as the horny MILF housewife originally played by Angie Dickinson, and Alexis Arquette as the transsexual serial killer. Come to think of it, I’d pay to see that.

At the rate of 12 or more direct-to-DVD productions per year, we should expect MGM to be remaking the recent box-office hit “Disturbia” by this time next year. Oh wait, that’s already a remake of Hitchcock’s “Rear Window” –never mind.
