To commemorate the 83rd birthday of Marilyn Monroe this past week, Life magazine has unveiled a newly discovered set of photographs of the movie icon taken nearly 60 years ago.
The photos, taken in 1950 by Life magazine photographer Ed Clark, were shot in L.A.’s Griffith Park three months after Monroe’s first on-screen role in The Asphalt Jungle.
Marilyn was born June 1st 1926, in Los Angeles, California. See the rest of the photos at Life.

Eva Mendes has landed on the cover of what is considered to be the fashion bible, Vogue.
Famed photographer Steven Meisel asked the 34-year-old Cuban-American actress to pose for Italian Vogue after they worked together on Calvin Klein’s upcoming perfume and underwear ads earlier this year.
In this sampling of the retro inspired photographs, Mendes channels one of Italy’s biggest exports, Hollywood film icon Sofia Loren.
